And Now Zambia
The prophecy that Swaziland would become the “pulpit to Africa” has begun! It started with what, at the time, seemed like a loss. Wafuka Kapolesa and his family had worked alongside Kevin Ward in the Teen Challenge program and helped to bring the ICBC concept to a reality in Swaziland. After their visa renewal was rejected by the Swazi government, the Kapolesa family decided to go back to Zambia.
The decision to go back to Zambia was accompanied by a desire to begin the only Teen Challenge program in the country. Rather than go back to his home town, Wafuka and Lily selected Kafue, an area with the highest HIV infection rate in Zambia, prostitution, alcoholism, and enormous poverty. They selected land in Mungu, an area approximately 10 miles outside the city, and asked God to provide the funds so they could purchase 50 acres. God provided the answer through Christian Life Center! Wafuka and Lily wanted to replicate the ICBC concept in Zambia, and CLC saw the opportunity to expand the Swaziland ministry to another African country.
A Teen Challenge dormitory and center was completed in 2013 and now in 2014, the construction of a church, pastor’s home, and orphan home is underway! A cabin will provide a place for visiting teams, and plans are in the works for a preschool. Mungu CLC is the first ICBC in Zambia and the fifth ICBC funded by Christian Life Center!
In July 2014, Rob and Jennifer Taylor, a missionary couple from Gig Harbor, Washington, joined Wafuka and Lily. Rob will provide construction expertise and Jennifer will assist Wafuka with the everyday details of running a Teen Challenge Center and an ICBC.
Mungu CLC is the first of three ICBCs that Christian Life Center is committed to building in Zambia. Pray that what God started in Swaziland and in Zambia will grow and prosper—ultimately transforming lives and populating heaven!
